About the Author
Professor Conrad Lashley is Professor of Leisure Retailing at the Centre for Leisure Retailing at the Nottingham Business School. His research interests have largely been concerned with service quality management, and specifically employee empowerment in service delivery. He works closely with several major industry organizations including the British Institute of Innkeeping, J. D. Wetherspoon and McDonald's Restaurants Limited.

She has an MSc in Entrepreneurial Studies and her Ph.D. thesis investigated small firm strategic alliances. Since 1979 she has been an entrepreneur in her own right, owning and operating a number of restaurant and hotel businesses. In addition, she regularly undertakes consultancy projects for entrepreneurs both in the UK and internationally.

About the Author
Jeff LeJeune grew up in small town USA in Jeanerette, LA and was heavily influenced by his years at Hanson Memorial High School in Franklin. He played basketball at McNeese State University until overcoming a deadly bacterial disease gave him reason to focus on other things in life, most importantly the gifts of storytelling and teaching. After teaching and coaching at two Catholic high schools for ten years, Jeff closed that chapter in his life and began writing more in earnest. This collection, along with the entries from 'Play on Andre' and his writing for DIG Magazine and other miscellaneous online sports sites, provides a glimpse into his most prolific writing period to date.

Le French Bread is a must read. The journey through the life of another human being. So brave and courageous to write about the struggles as well as the happiness of life. This book has definitely made me reflect on my own life and the way that we live our day to day lives. It has also made me realize that there are others out there who have many of the same struggles, doubts and misunderstanding about religion and just life in general. I will read this again because I am certain there are more great things in this book that I may have missed. Great job to Jeff for writing such an inspiring story. Thanks!

Nothing like anything I have ever read

This book deeply touched my heart and soul in so many ways. It is the most raw and real set of stories, and is nothing like anything I have ever read. It challenged me from page one to look deep within myself and decide if who I am is who I want to be. I cried. I laughed. I read and re-read. I reflected. Jeff laid it all out there...his own personal hell...nothing held back. I am forever changed by this book, and would highly recommend this to anyone looking for their own spiritual growth.

Charles Cresson Wood, CISA, CISSP, is an author and independent information security consultant based in Sausalito California.
In the information security field on a full-time basis since 1979, he has worked as an information security management consultant at SRI International (formerly Stanford Research Institute) as well as lead network security consultant at Bank of America.
He has done information security work with over 120 organizations many of them Fortune 500 companies including a large number of financial institutions and high-tech companies. His consulting work has taken him to over twenty different countries around the world. He is noted for his ability to integrate competing objectives (like ease-of-use, speed, flexibility and security) in customized and practical compromises that are acceptable to all parties involved.
Acknowledging that information security is multi-disciplinary, multi-departmental, and often multi-organizational, he is additionally noted for his ability to synthesize a large number of complex considerations and then to document these in security architectures, system security requirements, risk assessments, project plans, policy statements, and other clear and action-oriented documents.
He has published over 225 technical articles and five books in the information security field. Information Security Policies Made Easy (version 11) is the newest version of a vital information security reference.

In technology, books are often obsolete shortly after publication. Given the dynamic nature of technology, very few technology books can stand the test of time and remain relevant for a few years, let alone a decade after their original printing. Some of those rare titles that seem timeless include Applied Cryptography by Bruce Schneier, Security Engineering: A Guide to Building Dependable Distributed Systems by Ross Anderson (reviewed here in the RSA reading room), and the book I'll review here, Information Security Policies Made Easy (ISPME), which is one of the most important information security books available for those who are serious about creating a comprehensive set of information systems security policies.

The importance of effective information security policies cannot be overemphasized, as they are the foundation toward implementing information security and ensuring the security of the people, systems, and networks within an organization. If an organization lacks security policies, they cannot inform employees and users of their specific security responsibilities. Policies define acceptable system use and user behavior, and those policies must be in place before they can be enforced.

Version 11 of ISPME contains more than 1300 pre-written security policies that can be used as a framework for the creation of a comprehensive set of information security policies. The book comes with a CD-ROM that includes every policy. The beauty of ISPME is that it removes the huge burden and time required to create a global set of security policies. With ISPME, you can immediately begin exploring the myriad policies required for information security.

One of the biggest mistakes you could make, however, when using ISPME, is to implement a policy too quickly, without deciding specifically how those policies with be selected, developed, deployed, maintained, and enforced. Frank P. Incropera is currently Matthew H. McCloskey Dean of the College of Engineering at Univeristy of Notre Dame. Professor Incropera received his B.S.M.E.�from M.I.T. and his M.S.M.E.�and Ph.D. from Stanford University, all in mechanical engineering.�In 1998, he became the�Clifford and Evelyn Brosey Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Professor Incropera has received four major Purdue teaching awards and was the 1982 recipient of the�ASEE Ralph Coats Roe Award for excellence in teaching. He was the 1983 recipient of the ASEE George Westinghouse Award for achievements in teaching and research. In 1984 he became a Fellow of the�ASME, and in 1988 he received the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award for twenty years of research accomplishments in the fields of plasma heat transfer, radiative transfer in participating media, and double-diffusive and mixed convection. In 1988 he was also recipient of the Senior Scientists Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and recipient of the Melville Medal for the best original paper published by ASME. In 1995 he received the Worcester Reed Warner Medal of ASME for contributions to the fundamental literature of heat transfer and his textbooks on the subject.

I find this book very annoying. Although it reads reasonably well, the authors bury significant concepts in unexpected areas of the text. I have found it tremendously confusing when to use film temperature, mean temperature, surface temperature, etc. When to use them is not listed in the equations, sometimes they are buried in an example problem several pages later. One of the biggest annoyances for me is in chapter 7 (page 440). For heat flow through banks of tubes, they say to use the mean of the inlet and outlet temps to calculate the Nusselt number (eq 7.64). They make no mention as to how to solve if you do not know the outlet temp. Buried in example 7.7, you might notice that they use the inlet temperature to solve for the Nusselt number! This is not what the description of equation 7.64 says. Buried in the fine print of example 7.7 on page 446 is that you may need to iterate values until you get the desired accuracy (and if you do not know the outlet temp - they do not say this). Why don't they just come out and say this in the discussion and theory, rather than bury big ideas in the examples? Another example is in chapter 9 for vertical channels. They do not say anything about how to come up with a basic spacing, S. If you look at example 9.1 an equation is provided for thermal boundary layer thickness. Is "S" equal to twice this value? The reason I am on-line is I am looking for another textbook that can explain concepts better. Much of this book is ok to read, so I would not give it a terrible rating. It is a difficult subject that could be made easier. I also find it ridiculous that they do not provide any problems with answers in the back of the book. What good does it do to spend hours on a problem and not know if you have a good answer? At least a handful of problems would be helpful.

I hated it in college, but love it now.

I honestly didn't enjoy this book when I was in school, but now working as a mechanical engineer in the chemical sector, I can honestly say that this book is worth its weight in gold. If you're ever going to solve real problems (tube exchangers, tube bundle cross flow), then this is the book you need to keep on your shelf. Even if solving complex problems, the book can give you basic theory for which you to expand on with more accurate models. I'd recommend to any chemical, mechanical or electric engineer that needs to deal with heat transfer. If you're a student, then pay extra attention, because the theories in this book pop up daily.

Very challenging read

This book is definatly for a mechanical engineer. I used it for a biomedical engineering thermodynamics course, and damn was it hard to read. I don't know why, but they show you about ten different ways to represent equations, and some are helpful and some or not. Very very confusing unless your professor points out which to use. The calculus isnt too heavy in the book but is used in long complicated derivations that skip steps. A few sections do require integration. The concepts aren't too bad and are well defined, but my god the math behind it is presented so skewed that it's a wonder anyone would publish it. 99% of the material in this book is useless. At least to a BME like me, so I'm probably biased here. Whoever wrote it was smart, but can't teach....kinda familiar with my college experiences.

The author keeps it real and, by fully understanding my life's challenges, with her compassion and insights she has made me feel: I can do this. Not only that, but I can choose the stretches I need to address my body s chronic neck pain in a time-efficient manner. The instructions are easy to follow, and I also feel Linda nudging me on in her gentle manner. This book is not like other stretching books that just address the physical aspect of stretching, and that is what attracted me. Linda creates a masterful tapestry by integrating stretching, breathing, and stress reduction with a thread of mindfulness. I love the emphasis on not having to be perfect. Instead, the emphasis shifts toward kindness and patience with my body while I am trying to help it get out of pain and also lower my stress. Stretching with Ease is a very comprehensive book that covers the basics of how to stretch properly and then demonstrates dozens of stretches in great detail. The extensive instructions on how to perform each stretch and the color coded photographs showing the muscles being stretched make it easy to ensure you're stretching the right way. Linda Minarik has been continuously certified in group fitness with the American Council on Exercise since 1993. She also holds teaching certifications in Gyrokinesis� and The MELT Method™. Her other specialties include Aerobic Dance and Water Aerobics. Linda currently teaches group fitness at New York's Health & Racquet Clubs and the Equitable Athletic and Swim Club. Linda pursues the unusual fitness combination of ballet and bodybuilding and is a long-time, serious student of classical dance. She has recently branched out into the study of rhythmic gymnastics. Linda lives in New York City.

Improve Your Stretching Techniques AND Overall Health

I have always believed that PROPER stretching is so important, for overall health and appearance.
But, as is the case with all types of activities, there IS a right way and a wrong way to stretch.

Stretching with Ease by Linda Minarik is an excellent reference guide for anyone who wants to improve their stretching techniques, no matter what their age or current fitness level.

Color photos throughout and detailed instructions, guide the reader on proper stretching techniques, and for a variety of needs including for the back, preparing for a variety of sports, neck, alleviating issues resulting from prolonged sitting (and don't we all do too much of that!), legs, knees, feet...and much much more.

Definitely worth checking out if you are in need of some professional and (for the most part) easy to follow suggestions for improving your own stretching techniques and regimes.

A beautifully structured book

A beautifully structured book, covering everything from "Why stretch?" to individual stretches to stretching sequences, all the way to developing your own stretching routines, with logical, direct language that seamlessly takes you from one part of the book to the next without confusing or overwhelming. References to other pages or parts of the book that complement the section being read are specific and extremely useful. As someone who has learned about physical movement in dance classes and is always interested in the "doing" of something but not always clear as to the "why," I am thrilled that Linda puts it all together, filling in the "gaps" of my knowledge with words that improve understanding, and ultimately inspire one to pursue the improvement of the physical self. The benefits of stretching are described in Part 1; benefit 2 contained such a beautifully simple and classic example that I knew by page 17 that this book was going to be invaluable to me.

A Fresh Path to Stretching

I am not a lover of exercise books: I find them too technical, the instructions too robotic, and the visual presentation too intimidating. But the book by Linda Minarik is very different – it is indeed a guide to your body: it makes you aware of parts you never knew you had, it makes you feel them, and it helps you to make them serve you better. Her refreshingly original tips in marginal inserts -- under the heading “Enlist your Mind” -- opened for me an entirely new way of getting in touch with my own body, and with muscles I did not know how to move. She also provides color-coded displays that are extremely helpful. Her presentation of stretching (including “bonus stretches”) humanizes the routines, which make one feel not only more limber, but somehow fuller as a person. Fabulous.
