This book should be on every health practitioners list of books to read. Schauss explains in detail, with good research quotes what is happening to our society psychologically and why. We want to find some extraordinary explanations for our present day society's behaviour when it is so simple. Phillip Day I am sure loves this man as well because they are both saying the same. Our diet is leading us down a path of self destruction. Sugar, alcohol and preservatives are creating havoc in our bodies both psychologically and physiologically. It is time our world woke up to this and made some meaningful but elementary changes.

Nutrient Foods & Detox - Solution to Crime, Delinquency

I'm going from memory, having read the book many, many years ago, so I'm paraphrasing below. I gave this book 5 stars because it gives REAL CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS to crime and delinquency that WORK (not a hodgepodge of useless, scientific jargon).

CRIME PREVENTION FOR CHILDREN--A young boy who was labeled by psychiatrists, educators, counselors, doctors, judges, etc., as hopeless and destined to a life of crime. Alexander told the mother to replace the fast foods (junk foods), with whole nutritious foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, good fats, etc. Within a few months, the boy became a "normal child".

BEHAVIOR IN PRISON--Healthy snacks were put on the "shopping cart" for prisoners. Those who ate the nutrious snacks changed for the better. When questioned, the prisoners said..."Before, I just reacted. Now, I can think [before I act].

DETOX--People with criminal behaviors have higher amounts of HEAVY METALS in their body. A list of these metals is listed on a graph.

The role of PSA for the plants is an estimation of the risks in absolute terms and in comparison with other risks of the technical and the natural world. Plant-specific PSAs are being prepared for the plants and being applied for detection of weaknesses, design improvement and backfitting, incident analysis, accident management, emergency preparedness, prioritization of research and development and to support the regulatory activities.

There are three levels of PSA, being performed for full power and low power operation and shutdown operating modes of the plants: level 1, 2 and 3 PSA. The nuclear regulatory authorities do not require the level 3 PSA for the plants in the member countries of the European Union. This means that only a limited number of NPPs in Europe have the level 3 PSA available. However, in the light of the Fukushima accident the performance of such analyses is strongly recommended in the future. This book is intended for professionals working in the nuclear industry, researchers and students interested in safety of operational plants.

About the Author
Zoltan Kovacs is Managing Director of the company RELKO Ltd, Engineering and Consulting Services. He received his engineering degree and Ph.D in nuclear engineering from Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. He is actively involved in the area of probabilistic safety assessment of nuclear power plants and other potentially dangerous technologies. He is project manager of the level 1 and level 2 living PSA projects being performed for the Slovak NPPs in operation. He has closed cooperation with IAEA as a lecturer in the PSA training courses. He represents Slovakia in the Working Group for Risk Assessment of NPPs (WGRISK) in OECD.

Puts agile methods into a nice focus

I'd expected a much more detailed description and case studies of agile methods. The actual presentation on the concepts is only that, a summary of the concepts. The rest of the book is a lot more detail on the core concepts of good practice and the application of patterns. This is excellent material and it is well presented and interesting. You'll learn a lot of good insites. The examples were informative but not really detailed enough to leave you feeling you know the material in one reading. This book takes some real study for the informaton to sink in. I bet if your developing code you'll really gain from the re-visiting sections of the book until it becomes second nature. Your going to want to give this book to your friends.

Very deserving in it's own right.

After reading this text, I feel it deserves the attention of other great texts such as Design patterns and Refactoring, even though much of it's content expounds upon the ideas of these two classics. It's my opinion that this text has two strong points: it explains the ideas and details of agile development very clearly, and it does an excellent job of explaining the most popular patterns originated by GOF, plus a few more. The authors style was very good, with most of the examples in Java. Being a C++ programmer, I would have liked to see more examples in that language, but this is not any fault of the author.

Catch-22

If you are considering committing your time to reading this book for the sole purpose of learning about the Agile Methodology, then-sadly-your money is better spent elsewhere. Nothing said here about the Agile Process is unique, as it was already repeated over and over again in numerous books, articles, and websites dedicated to eXtreme Programming.
However, this book does offer a very decent rehash of classical design patterns. The case studies presented help to clarify the discussed patterns in context, and are in general a refreshing and modernized version of the examples found in the classical GoF book. If the author had concentrated his efforts on the discussion of patterns, then the book would have easily managed to win my five-star vote. If you aren't properly introduced to the subject of patterns already, then consider this an essential read.
As to the subject of Agile Development, it's a classical Catch-22 situation. The book claims to cover this new cutting-edge and trendy methodology. And indeed, you'll find the mandatory core values and principals chapters, and a sample Pair Programming session. But herein the problem lies: the pair programming session chronicles two highly expert programmers haplessly going through iteration after iteration, page after page, of dull, brain-numbing conversation and mediocre code to write a simple program that is to compute the score of bowling games. Just scale up the experience to a more complicated module in a bigger system, and what you'll have is a development method that no programmer in his right mind would ever consider adopting. Thus, either this is definitely NOT Agile Development, or the whole Agile phenomena is nothing more than a fiasco. I'd personally place my bet on the second possibility.
But by all means, don't take my word for it. Point your browser to [local website]for a realistic and often hilarious critique of XP and Agile Development. This was a required book for my Master's course in Low-Income Housing, published by the Urban Land Institute. This is really a Handbook, and well presented, each chapter - Market Analysis, Site Selection, Financial Feasibility, etc. - are well composed, present practical examples, and resources that can be retrieved on the internet and hardcover books. (Good publishing and good delivery service!)

Great resource , ful l of lots of great info.

I purchased this book when I was at my wit's end with our daughter hitting the terrible twos and needed some guidance . I trust anything Dr. Dobson says. My mom used the original Strong Willed Child for us geowing up. I read through the book very quickly but skipped over all the research data. He does include a lot of info from studies which is kind of annoying but it is stil incredibly helpful. I applied the tips learned and she started behaving almost overnight and hasnt thrown anymore out of control temper tantrums that lea ve me crying in the bathroom! We are all much happier. I highly recommend this resource!

another easy to read gem

I had the privildge of having these three James Dobson books at my disposal when I was raising my children back in the 80's-90's. They are fantastic books, containing pearls of wisdom. They gave me much needed truth and guidance - lets face it...children do not come with instructions, and the way our parents did it may not be the right or effective way. These books were and integral part of my raising of children.
Truth and wisdom do not change over time - so these books are still applicable today.

This book is insightful and a great bargain! I have the original Dare to Discpline and have read it. This book is great, because it combines 3 awesome works of Dr. Dobson's so I don't have to pick up different books at different books for different times, it's all in one book and I can flip around through it, depending on the situation I am trying to resolve or learn about. Very practical and sound advice and information.
