a MUST READ for any new parent

I have a daughter and when she first came home I scoured amazon looking for books on how to make my house safe. My daughter is my top priority and I didn't want to make a mistake. I ordered this book and was so happy I did. It covered everything that I couldn't think of when I was in the middle of caring for my new girl. It told me about electrical outlets, safety gates, makeup (poisoning) and much, much more. I cannot recommend this book enough for anyone with a baby on the way or little ones in the house.

Reading this book by Matt and Jeremy reminds us that the classic spiritual disciplines are relevant for today, but more importantly are not "duties to perform" but ways in which God draws us closer to himself. Too often in Christianity people are taught these disciplines are for the purpose of moving you closer to God, while Matt and Jeremy remind us the opposite is in fact the reality of the disciplines.

Thank guys for the study guides and questions throughout the book. They help us as we think about how to practice these disciplines in the context of daily living.

This book could be used in a discipleship group, as a personal study (though meant for a community setting), or for a study group. Simple, yet thought-provoking describes Awakening Grace.

This is a very professional translation of a lost text from the Vedic tradition of India. This text was found in bundle of palm leaves that were in a library in Mysore, India.

Dr. Freund gives an introduction to the concepts of pure consciousness and enlightenment found in the Vedic Traditio. Then he translates the text which is fundamentally a detailed description of the relationship between the sounds of Vedic Sanskrit and the various Devatas or Gods found in the Vedic tradition.

This relationship between each of the sounds of Vedic sanskrit and their correspondence to the Devas or the laws of nature of the universe may be unique to this text. Therefore it will of interest to those who are interested in the philosophy and religion of India and to those who are interested in holistic descriptions of nature.

Again, this is a professional translation and truly a one-of-a-kind book.

This book was a revelation for me. I never thought of letters of any alphabet in terms of their gender, quality or character, color, forces of nature or deities they might represent. I started reading the book before going to bed and found myself still reading into it at 3 o'clock in the morning. I could not stop reading until I read it all. It is amazing to learn that there is correlation between Sanskrit vowels and numbers, and that words are used to represent numbers to represent vowels...The book is also very well organized in scientific terms. Many thanks to the author Dr. Peter Freund.

A must for Vedic scholars and enthusiasts

This book is fascinating, and one of a kind. Varna Shiksha was never publicly available in any language. Freund tells the story of how he found the text in a library in India written on a bundle of palm leaves, written in an obscure script. He first transcribed the script over to Sanskrit, and then translated it into English. Varna Shiksha is the only place the different qualities of all of the Sanskrit letters are described in such detail. Each Sanskrit letter is associated with different Devatas, colors, and other qualities. Also, the translation of the verses is itself very captivating, in beautiful, carefully-worded language, almost ornamental descriptions. The book should be in every Vedic library as it is foundational to the study of the Vedic literature.

When he was four years old, Asgedom's family left their war-ravaged home in Ethiopia. They spent three years in a Sudanese refugee camp before coming to the U.S. in 1983, where they were settled by World Relief in a wealthy white suburb near Chicago. He later earned a full scholarship to Harvard, where in 1999 he delivered the commencement address. His simple lyrical narrative, both wry and tender, stays true to the child's viewpoint as he grows up, taunted at school, but pretty bad and rough himself. His coming-of-age story is both darkened and enriched by the stories he hears about his parents' lives back home and by the pieces he remembers. At the center of the book is his father, a fierce family disciplinarian, once an all-powerful medical assistant at home, now reduced to a "beetle," unemployed, half-blind, raging at his dependency. Only at the very end, when Asgedom spells out the metaphor of the title, does the message overwhelm the story. What stays with you is the quiet, honest drama of a family's heartrending journey. The Power of Positivity...

This is a remarkable true story of a journey that has led a man from Ethiopea, to the refugee camps in Sudan to Chicago. He is a Harvard graduate, resides in Illinois and uses his experiences to help other people (particularly educators and students) realize their potential through positive thinking and living. His early years in the Sudan are reminiscent to me of what my kids experienced in Ghana, and he was about their age when he came to the U.S.. However, his experience once here was very different. I'm looking forward to meeting this author next month.

Pretty simple for graduate level

This book was required by my PA program as a crash course A&P the first few weeks. It was a mandatory purchase, which I now lament. The book is obviously well written and organized with great graphics, but is not appropriate for med school or PA school use. It has great explanations, but lacks depth. Great for undergraduate overview, but coming from a physiology background, this book just sat on my shelf.

I find this book to be easy to study.

I like the book because it is easy to study, especially compared to trying to study the e-book at school. The eleventh edition does seem to have the advantage of having good summaries at the end of each chapter that the 12 edition doesn't have. I haven't had time to look at the CD or use the workbook, so I can't comment on them.

An engaging and inspiring qualitative methods book for students and teachers alike

I had the good fortune to use an early draft of Sarah Tracy's Qualitative Research Methods text when I was a graduate student. In particular, I appreciated the accessible language, myriad examples, and comprehensive set of resources that address the entire process of conducting qualitative research from understanding theory/paradigm to data collection, analysis and writing.

Compared to other qualitative methods texts, I found Dr. Tracy's style to be engaging and I appreciated the way she explained complex concepts by using her own and other colleagues'/students' research projects. The chapters on data analysis also make her book stand out from other texts I've read. Not only does the book offer a solid grounding in how to collect data, it illustrates basic and advanced methods to make meaning from data and develop arguments for various audiences--Really helpful when sitting with a giant pile of interviews/fieldnotes and feeling overwhelmed!

Having assisted Dr. Tracy in teaching a graduate qualitative methods course, I look forward to using the book and accompanying teacher resource manual in my own classes in the future.

Academic text with practical applications

This academic text covers all current qualitative research methods including in-depth interviews, focus groups, and the latest cutting edge digital methods. The chapter on how to analyze qualitative data is complete and detailed, and that alone makes this book worth owning if you plan on doing a lot of qualitative data analysis. If you do have a lot of qualitative data analysis in front of you, and if you enjoy doing so... well, I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

Tracy does a great job of walking through the qualitative research process without bogging the reader down with jargon or unnecessary ambiguity. I used this text as one of many that included in my dissertation.
